Recipes and activities to combat the winter blues

It's already February again, or still February... Some people love winter. What wouldn't you do for 30°C in the shade? Unfortunately, this isn't possible right now; you can only dream about it. One thing is certain, though: winter drains many people's energy, and chronic lethargy sets in. The body doesn't get enough sun and energy. We want to help you get out of this rut with a few tricks.

Energy and vitamin boost with a homemade ginger shot

A glass full of ginger juice photographed from above

This shot, despite its simplicity, is a secret recipe... Why? Because it's a cure-all! It helps with inflammation, an upset stomach, headaches, and strengthens the heart, circulation, and immune system. Because ginger is consumed raw, all the vitamins are passed directly to the body.
You only need:
• 100g ginger
• 3 lemons
• 100g honey

(if you want you can add 1 apple)
for about 300g of the magic potion

It’s that easy:

Carefully wash the ginger and, if desired, the apple, as the peel will also be used. Then core the apple and cut it and the ginger into small pieces. These are then placed in a blender. Add the juice of the three lemons. Now just add the honey and blend for about 2 minutes! Now you can transfer the juice to another container. The shot will keep in the refrigerator for about 4 days.
We hope this little energy boost will help you get through the winter!

The healthy energy snack!

Another energy source would be energy balls! These little sweet spheres are ideal for snacking. They also help you get going. These balls are currently very trendy. The nuts provide enough fiber, and the fruit provides enough vitamins. The honey puts you in a good mood! The perfect combination, everything you need!

With this amount you will get about 15 balls
• 100g almonds
• 60g cashews
• 2 tablespoons honey
• 10 pitted dates
• 70g oat flakes
• 70g cocoa powder
• 100g coconut flakes

You need to put the almonds, cashews, honey, cocoa powder, and pitted dates into a blender. (You can also chop them by hand if you don't have a blender.) Blend everything until a sticky mixture forms. Add the oats and blend again. Prepare the coconut flakes. Now you can start forming the balls and then place them in the coconut flakes. Tada! The miracle balls are now ready! Enjoy! They'll keep in the fridge for about 2 weeks!

Activities to combat the winter blues

Winter can quickly become depressing, especially during the coronavirus pandemic! We'll give you a few tips on how to combat it.

1. Go outside

If the roof is falling on your head at home, definitely get outside. You should spend at least half an hour outside every day. Not only is the fresh air good for you, it's also important for your circulation! While you're outside, take three deep breaths; this will exercise your lungs.

2. Light therapy

If regular light isn't enough for you in the winter, get a light therapy lamp! These lamps have a healing effect if used for 15 to 30 minutes daily. These lamps are expensive, but they can help on dark days!

3. Structure your day

Lacking motivation to get up? Then structure your day! Start by making yourself a good breakfast. Do small chores and try things you've always wanted to do. Crafting, sewing, restoring furniture, or repotting flowers... I'm sure you'll come up with something! It's best to do the chores first, then the fun stuff...
Set your alarm for 9:00 a.m. at the latest. Even if you don't have anything planned, every day is too beautiful and precious to sleep through! 😉 This will also ensure that your sleep rhythm doesn't get out of control.

4. Lots of love

Give your loved ones lots of time and love. Give your mother a big hug and a big hug. You'll notice how much better she and you feel afterward! Cuddle a lot with your partner. This triggers feelings of happiness, just like chocolate!

5. Play time!

Do you still have all the games you loved as a child? Then get them out of the basement! How fun would a game of Monopoly or Ludo be this evening? Play a round and revel in childhood memories! If you want to make it even more fun, you can even play with a glass of wine. 😉

6. Sports

Most importantly, keep moving! There are so many things you can do. Try yoga or go for a run in the park! If it's too cold outside, you can also do challenging workouts indoors! Get yourself and your body in shape for summer! There are many how-to videos on various channels that can help you.

7. Movie time!

Finished Netflix already...? Definitely not! There are so many streaming portals. Do you still have old DVDs from your childhood? Then watch them. You can also start a movie marathon with popcorn and chips.
Or ask your parents for old childhood videos of you! While watching them, you can revel in happy childhood memories!

Have fun trying it out and don’t let your head hang down!
