The aim of the trip was to see for themselves how our handmade leather bags , travel bags , To make laptop bags , etc., to connect with the talented artisans and to ensure that our high quality and sustainability standards are maintained.
But a trip to India wouldn't be complete without a culinary journey of discovery! In addition to the fascinating insights into the production of our leather goods, there were also plenty of culinary delights to enjoy – from spicy curries to freshly baked naan straight from the tandoor oven.
Craftsmanship at the highest level: Each piece is unique
While machines take over the work in many industries, the production of our leather bags remains an art, carried out with passion by skilled craftsmen.
Each bag goes through several artisanal steps:
✔ Selection of the finest leather: Only the finest hides are considered for our bags. Each hide is tested for quality, suppleness, and durability.
✔ Chrome-free tanning: A sustainable process that protects the environment and is safe for workers. Plant extracts such as mimosa and tara are used to finish the leather.
✔ Natural drying in the sun: After tanning, the hides are traditionally dried on the roofs of the tanneries. This environmentally friendly method harnesses the natural power of the sun and saves energy while giving the leather its characteristic, robust structure.
✔ Manual cutting: Our craftsmen cut each piece of leather individually to use material efficiently and minimize waste.
✔ Hand-stitched precision: Every seam is carefully placed to ensure maximum stability and durability.
✔ Finishing & Inspection: Every finished product undergoes rigorous quality control before leaving our warehouse. Here, details such as edge processing, seams, and finishes are further perfected.
Why we produce in India – A country with a unique leather tradition
India is one of the world's most important centers for high-quality leather production – and for good reason. The combination of centuries-old craftsmanship, sustainable tanning processes, and ethical production makes the country the ideal location for our leather bags.
Leather processing with tradition
India has a long history of leatherworking. Here, craftsmanship is passed down from generation to generation, allowing skilled artisans to work with exceptional precision.
Sustainable, chrome-free tanning
Many Indian tanneries rely on vegetable tanning methods, which are more environmentally friendly and do not expose workers or the environment to harmful chemicals. This not only ensures high-quality, long-lasting leather but also protects the health of those involved in production.
Fair and flexible production
Through close collaboration with our partners in India, we can ensure our high ethical standards. Fair wages, safe working conditions, and sustainable methods are our top priority. Furthermore, handcrafting allows us to cater to individual designs and the highest quality standards.
High-quality materials & natural patina
Indian leather is known for its exceptional quality. Over time, it develops a beautiful patina that makes each bag unique. The natural tanning processes also give the leather a special feel and durability.
India combines tradition, sustainability, and the highest level of craftsmanship – exactly what makes our leather bags so special.
Meeting the people behind our bags
A particularly moving part of the trip was the direct interaction with the artisans who craft our products. Many of them have been working in leatherworking for decades, inheriting this knowledge from their parents and grandparents.
Their stories, their dedication, and their pride in their work deeply impressed us. Each artisan contributes to making our bags unique. It's their craftsmanship that transforms a simple piece of leather into a durable, stylish accessory .
A culinary adventure: Food as an integral part of your trip to India
India is not only known for its impressive craftsmanship, but also for its unique cuisine, which enchants the senses with its variety of flavors and spices. Nik and Katha insisted on exploring India's culinary side. The atmosphere of the local restaurants was an experience in itself. Everywhere, the scent of spices like cardamom, cumin, and turmeric wafted through the air—an unforgettable explosion of the senses.
A journey full of inspiration, tradition and taste
Our trip to India showed us once again how important it is to regularly visit our production facilities and maintain close contact with our partners. Handcrafted quality, sustainable production, and genuine craftsmanship – that is our goal.
We also realized that good food is just as much a part of culture as good craftsmanship. The hospitality we received and the culinary discoveries made this trip unforgettable.
