Capsule Wardrobe in Spring - Less is more
Away with the winter clothes and in with blouses, dresses, and light jackets! Spring is here, and the temperatures are finally rising. It's high time to stock up on lightweight clothing and new spring outfits. Or maybe not? If you want to be more environmentally conscious, you might want to skip spring shopping this year and clean out your closet instead. Capsule wardrobe is the key here.
What is a capsule wardrobe?
A capsule wardrobe is a minimalist concept. It's all about keeping only the essential items in your closet. These items should be easy to combine and timeless, so they can be quickly put together to create a variety of stylish outfits. This prevents unworn clothes from gathering dust in your closet or being thrown away. Furthermore, by spending less time on your everyday outfits, you have more time for the more important things in life, while still looking well-dressed thanks to a reduced number of high-quality items.
How did the capsule wardrobe come about?
Although it's now very trendy, the capsule wardrobe isn't a new invention of the 21st century. The term first appeared in the 1970s and was coined by Susie Faux, owner of the London boutique "Wardrobe." Her primary goal was to help women develop style and confidence. Growing up in a family of dressmakers, she was surrounded by high-quality clothing during her childhood. This taught her that well-fitting, high-quality clothing not only looks good but also helps you feel more confident.
Her approach is simple : By building a capsule wardrobe, you buy fewer, higher-quality items that you then wear more often. This way, you'll look confident and successful, and feel good because the quality is visible and you know the overall look works.
She didn't establish a specific rule about how many items of clothing a person should own. The rule is: less is more.
How can you easily create a capsule wardrobe yourself?
The goal of a capsule wardrobe is to live a more minimalist lifestyle. It works like this: Instead of filling your closet with tons of cheap clothes, you focus on a few timeless pieces that can be easily combined.
To get started, you'll probably need to do a little decluttering in your closet. Before you throw everything away or donate it, it's a good idea to first consider your style, what colors suit you, and what clothes you like best. This will help you make your decision.
Next, you can start sorting things out. It's best to sort your clothes into three categories: keep, maybe, and throw away. You can keep the maybe clothes for a while and then decide whether you want to give them away or keep them.
The next step is to identify a certain number of items of clothing for each season that you can combine well and that are appropriate for the different temperatures and weather types of that season. We recommend around 37 items of clothing per season, or more precisely: no more than 37 items of clothing and accessories. First, sort your clothes from the "keep" category back into your closet. Of course, only keep the clothes that fit the season; you can store the others in boxes until the right season arrives. Then you can identify which items of clothing, shoes, or accessories you're still missing and go shopping. Of course, you should always make sure that you only buy clothes that really fit you, match your style, and combine well with the other items in your capsule wardrobe for the season.
Approximately every three months, you can then change your wardrobe seasonally and add any missing items as needed. Always keep in mind the upper limit of approximately 37 items of clothing, shoes, and accessories. Make sure you also have some basic pieces and timeless accessories, such as leather bags .
