City Trip: Summer days in Munich
Munich is often called "Italy's northernmost city." And not without reason! Especially in summer, the Bavarian capital offers beautiful places and destinations that are definitely worth a short trip!
In this blog post, we want to give you a few tips on how to fully enjoy a summer day in Munich and immerse yourself in the Munich lifestyle. Have fun exploring!
For a good start to the day
You can start your day in Munich with a delicious breakfast or brunch on one of Munich's many rooftop terraces. This is a wonderful start to an eventful day, especially in good weather. Enjoy your morning coffee above the city's rooftops with a wonderful view you won't be able to get enough of! If you want to start your day right in the city center, you can visit the rooftop terrace of the Oberpollinger department store. Located between Marienplatz and Karlsplatz Stachus, the rooftop terrace is the perfect starting point for a short city tour after breakfast.
You can also enjoy views of the city from Café Vorhoelzer, located on the roof of the Technical University of Munich. With its diverse clientele in the student district, the café is definitely worth a visit! The Technical University, with its rooftop terrace, is located in the heart of Maxvorstadt, one of the most central districts in the city—an ideal location to start your city exploration!
Our tip: A backpack is better than a bag for your city trip. Easily carry drinks, snacks, and maybe an umbrella or rain jacket without getting back pain after a short while. A backpack distributes the weight evenly across your back, helping to prevent pain.
A shady spot
In summer, it can get quite hot in Munich around lunchtime, and many people are looking for a shady spot. The English Garden, Munich's largest park, with its beer gardens, definitely offers the perfect destination. Here, you can take a break from your city tour and enjoy a refreshing drink in the beer garden at the Chinese Tower. The menu features many Bavarian delicacies and cool drinks!
With its many large grassy areas and shady spots, the English Garden is very popular not only with tourists but also with Munich residents. In summer, young and old come together here to enjoy the beautiful weather. Brave swimmers can venture into the cold Eisbach stream (the name says it all!). The Eisbach is a tributary of the Isar River and flows directly through the English Garden. Those who find swimming too boring and already have some surfing experience can show off their skills at the so-called "Eisbach Wave" and ride a wave in the heart of Munich.
With its wide range of activities and diverse crowds, the English Garden is definitely worth a visit.
Bad weather? No problem!
Even if the weather isn't great, you can still spend a lovely day in Munich. A walking tour might not be an option in the rain, but tram line 19 (also known as the sightseeing line) makes it easy to get from one attraction to another. This tram route runs above the main train station to Stachus, one of Munich's most central squares, past impressive buildings like the Palace of Justice. The route continues toward famous landmarks like Munich City Hall, the Residence Palace, and the Opera House. So, if you don't feel like taking a sightseeing bus, this tram is a good and affordable alternative.
If you don't feel like sightseeing, you can visit one of the many museums in Munich!
If you're interested in technology and science, we recommend a visit to the Deutsches Museum in bad weather. With its vast exhibition space, the Deutsches Museum is the largest technology and science museum in the world and is very popular with both young and old.
Anyone who wants to learn more about Munich should visit the Munich City Museum. It features interesting permanent exhibitions, such as the "Typical Munich" exhibition. In five historically structured sections with over 400 exhibits, you can discover, sometimes with irony, what is typical of Munich.
And for all shopping lovers: You can also turn your city trip into a shopping trip in one of the many large shopping centers in and around Munich
Munich's nightlife
Anyone spending a summer day in Munich should round off the day, in keeping with Bavarian tradition, with a glass of beer in one of the many beautiful beer gardens. Alternatively, there are also several summer festivals and folk festivals in the city where you can enjoy just such a cool beer.
In June and July, for example, the famous Tollwood Festival takes place in the Olympic Park. Here, you can experience the food, people, music, and products of many different cultures, while also admiring sustainable artworks, for example, made from old plastic bottles.
No matter what you ultimately decide on, a beautiful leather shoulder bag , like our BRIGHTON by SID & VAIN, is a great accessory for women and is just the right size to carry your wallet, cell phone and other small items in the evening.
If you want to head out to a bar or club after a long day, Munich has something for every taste! A stylish leather clutch , like the CATHY model from FEYNSINN, is perfect for this!
You'll find many hip and often unusual bars in the city's university district, Maxvorstadt. Here, you can enjoy a drink or two with lots of friendly young people—especially students. Maxvorstadt is very close to the main train station and thus well connected to public transport, allowing you to get around flexibly.
No matter how you spend your day, you're sure to never get bored in Munich!
