planning
For many people, vacation planning is the most frustrating part of traveling. Often, you can't decide where to go or can't find a suitable offer. This can lead to hours or even days spent sitting in front of the computer, searching numerous websites for a cheap and suitable trip.
Therefore, it's worth knowing exactly where you want to go in advance so you can narrow down your search. Once you've decided on your desired destination, you can easily find hotels and other accommodations on websites like booking.com. Thanks to its practical filter function and the wide range of offers, finding a suitable place to stay is relatively easy. Even if you can book accommodations directly through the website, it's often worth calling the hotel or guesthouse in person to get a better deal. Hotels and accommodations are best booked well in advance or fairly close to the start of your trip to take advantage of early bird or last-minute discounts.
Once you've found suitable accommodation at your destination, it's time to arrange your journey. It's best to book flights well in advance to get a better price. Helpful and good websites that find suitable flight connections include Google Flights and Skyscanner.
You should also think about what you want to see and experience at your destination before your trip. You can do this by buying a travel guide for your destination, for example, or by searching the website "reise2punktnull.de" for blogs by travel bloggers who have already been to your destination. You can also use Trivago or Google Maps to find well-reviewed restaurants, so you won't go hungry even in a new place :)
pack
Suitcase/travel bag
Once the trip is planned and the vacation is just around the corner, the second hurdle that must be overcome comes... packing your suitcase!
To avoid frantically deciding what you need and what you don't, you should first find a suitable packing list online or download an app like PackKing, which generates a packing list based on your destination. You can also find two detailed packing lists on our blog and in our suitcase guide .
Before you start packing, you should of course consider which piece of luggage you will take with you and how much space you will need for your luggage.
A suitcase set like the MILANO suitcase set from our brand FERGÉ, which has three suitcases in three different sizes, is very practical here, as you always have the right suitcase in the right size at home and if you need more space you can simply take two or three suitcases with you.
For shorter city breaks or weekend trips to see loved ones, it's sometimes a good idea to have a sturdy , large travel bag . A travel bag like the CHESTER Weekender from SID&VAIN packs quickly, holds much more than you'd expect, and can be easily thrown over your shoulder for spontaneous excursions.
We also have an insider tip for you: If you want to bring a bottle of wine for yourself or a loved one and are worried about it breaking in your luggage and getting all your clothes dirty, you can put it in an inflated armband. This way, it'll be protected from impacts and still be enjoyable at your destination :).
Hand luggage
There are many regulations regarding hand luggage, especially on flights, regarding what you can and can't take with you. If you're traveling by plane and plan to travel with a carry-on suitcase, you should definitely check with your airline beforehand about the regulations! You can also find an overview of hand luggage regulations in our suitcase guide ...
Now that you've gathered information and know what you can't carry in your hand luggage, we'll tell you a few more things that you definitely shouldn't forget in your hand luggage, such as the suitcases from the TOULOUSE suitcase series by FERGÉ:
- An empty water bottle to fill, as drinks on the plane and at the airport are often very expensive
- Snacks, as there is often no food on short-haul and budget flights and meal times on long-haul flights are often not when you are hungry
- Chewing gum to relieve ear pressure
- Neck pillows for long-haul flights
- Headphones for listening to music (TIP: Roll them up and hold them together with a clothespin to prevent the cables from tangling)
- Charging cable for the smartphone
- TIP: You can easily carry small amounts of make-up and creams in a contact lens case without spilling
Trip
Last but not least, we would like to give you a few different tips for your time at your holiday/travel destination:
If you're traveling to a country with a different language and the people there don't speak a word of English, you can communicate with WhatsApp emojis. There's a wide selection of symbols that you can use almost anywhere. For example, different foods and dishes for restaurants, as well as beaches, hotels, and attractions for taxi rides.
To avoid forgetting anything, simply put something important for the return trip, like leggings or your entire outfit, in your hotel safe at the beginning of your trip. This way, you'll be sure to leave nothing locked away in your safe!
It's also very important to always keep a close eye on your luggage, especially your valuables, when abroad. Never carry too much cash, and don't leave important items unattended. For example, you can hide banknotes in an empty lip balm when you're at the beach. Valuables like ID and credit cards are best left in your hotel room or carried close to your body. Hip or body bags are practical for this, such as the HEATHROW hip bag or the DUDLEY body bag by SID&VAIN, which you can always keep close at hand and in view.
