Festival Guide 2024: The best tips for a successful festival visit

Rocking out to great music with friends and enjoying a cold beer? Festival season makes every summer unforgettable. New friendships are formed, artists are seen up close, and countless memories are made. To ensure you're well prepared, we've compiled the best bags and tips for the 2024 festival season.

Bag regulations at festivals in 2024

In most cases, only A4-sized bags are permitted. However, please check the festival website for the rules. Here's a summary of the bag regulations for the usual festivals in Germany:

Southside : Jute bags, gym bags, shoulder bags up to DIN A4 are allowed.

Lollapalooza : Hip or belt bags, jute bags and shoulder bags that are smaller than A4 format .

Hurricane : Hip or belt bags up to 25cm x 10cm x 15cm and A5-sized neck pouches. Liquid hygiene products are limited to 100 ml (max. 2 per person).

Deichbrand : Bags and backpacks must remain on the campsite. Only small fanny packs up to DIN A5 size are permitted.

Festival Bags: Perfect bags for the festival season

Hip and belt bags

Close to the body and super lightweight . Our personal favorite is the beige LEI hip bag made of water-repellent recycled plastic. It's the perfect size for everything you need for your festival weekend. A sportier alternative is the KANE hip bag. Unlike the LEI, this one also has waterproof zippers. If you prefer to wear your bag under your T-shirt, the smaller version, the ALANI, might be more to your liking. It sits flat and securely against your body.
Special feature : All of the Sons of Aloha bags mentioned are made from recycled ocean plastic. They also feature practical compartments for safely storing your valuables.

Leather shoulder bags

Aesthetics and function in one. A leather bag adds the finishing touch to your vintage look . The brown YALE, LIA, and AUBREY shoulder bags, made of premium cowhide leather, take your retro look to the next level. The best part: These natural leather bags gain more character with each festival visit, developing a beautiful patina . If you prefer a more modern and minimalist look, the LIVA and FRAN leather bags are another great choice.

Small backpacks and pouch bags

Depending on the festival, backpacks and small sports bags are permitted. However, be aware that some music festivals only accept transparent versions.

The HANNE canvas backpack is much lighter than leather backpacks thanks to its chosen material, but the leather details add a cool look. Backpacks offer plenty of storage space for sunscreen, a water bottle, valuables, and other essentials, making them ideal for long festival days.

A larger alternative to the HANNE is the MALU Small duffel bag in pink or blue. This adds a much-needed splash of color to your festival look. Thanks to the storage space, you can even pack a sweater or rain jacket alongside your essentials for the colder evenings.

Crossbody bags

This style of bag also allows you to move freely or dance. As the name "cross-body bag" suggests, this leather bag is worn across the body with a comfortable and adjustable shoulder strap . This way, you'll always have all your essentials within easy reach . Choose either the brown BRIGHTON bag for a classic look or the smaller MARVI version in modern black.

No matter which bag you ultimately choose, each of our bags is a true eye-catcher for your ultimate festival look !

5 Practical Festival Tips

1. Ensure adequate water supply

Bringing your own alcohol or water is generally not permitted on the festival grounds or at concerts. However, most festivals offer drinking water dispensers where you can fill up for free . To save space, you can order a roll-up water bottle for the festival season. This not only saves space but also makes carrying your bag much more comfortable. With a carabiner, you can then easily attach the full bottle to your hip bag, etc.

2. Less is more

At festivals, less is more! We advise you to only bring the essentials with you to the festival grounds. It's far too easy to lose things, and a smaller bag will be less of a hindrance while dancing in the crowd. Keep your phone, money, bank cards, and keys safe and close to your body —at the bottom of a backpack, for example, or in the hidden compartment on your back with the Hip Bag LEI. Don't forget to bring wet wipes, a small sunscreen, tissues, and hand sanitizer, as the restrooms usually run out of toilet paper quickly and get dirty quickly.

3. Bring earplugs

Earplugs are a good idea, and not just at night when you're sinking into your sleeping bag. In general, with such a high level of noise created by live music and crowds , your hearing should be protected . However, that doesn't mean you can't fully enjoy the performances; with well-chosen earplugs, you can do so without risking sudden hearing loss.

4. Permitted means of payment

Find out in advance which payment methods are accepted on site. Some festivals prefer bank payments, others prefer cash or charging the chip on your wristband. You can then leave any unnecessary payment methods either in the glove compartment of your car or at home. If these options aren't possible, always keep valuables on your person !

5. Don't forget sunscreen

Partying outdoors for hours will inevitably lead to severe sunburn . It's therefore essential that you apply sunscreen with at least SPF 30+ in the morning and carry it with you. You should also wear a hat or bandana to protect yourself from heatstroke.

Packing list – basics you should definitely take with you

Toilet paper , as most toilets run out within a few hours.

Hand disinfectant for the necessary hygiene at all times.

Large trash bags, because festivals generate a lot of trash. You can also turn them into a DIY cape in case of a sudden rain shower.

Gaffa tape for repairs and DIY projects.

Bath slippers or flip-flops for the restrooms.

Wet wipes for quick refreshment.

Dry shampoo to combat greasy hair. This is available in powder form as a more environmentally friendly alternative.

Pocket mirror to check hairstyle and makeup.

With our bags and tips, you are now ideally prepared for your upcoming festival and can enjoy it to the fullest.
