Singles Day 2021 – Do something good for yourself and nature
On November 11, 2021, 11% of our sales will go to nature.
Do something good for yourself and others.
Did you know that you and I depend on trees and forests, no matter where we live? Not only because we enjoy the wood and shade they provide, but because they provide us with essentials for life. Trees perform an important function for humans and nature. They convert harmful CO2 from exhaust fumes, industry, etc., into vital oxygen. They not only give us the air we breathe, but they also contribute to climate stabilization. Therefore, the first step to protecting the climate is to protect trees and reforest more and more deforested forests.
We support this and want to actively contribute to forest protection together with you. If you treat yourself on Singles Day and treat yourself to a beautiful leather bag , you'll also be doing something good for nature, because we will donate 11% of your purchase price to the development and preservation of Germany's forests.
Protecting trees: why it's so important for the climate.
Trees have some very positive and very important properties. As already mentioned, they store carbon dioxide and convert it into oxygen during photosynthesis. In other words, trees breathe in what we breathe out (CO2) and breathe out what we breathe in (oxygen). A tree removes an estimated 10 kg of CO2 from the atmosphere annually and binds the substance long-term in its mass and in the soil. Trees also protect the soil from erosion by cleaning it. Photosynthesis, the metabolic process of trees, also requires water. Therefore, trees extract water from the soil and release it back into the air. They can absorb a very large amount of water every day and thus regulate precipitation, which contributes to a regulated water balance in the soil.
Tree wood is also an important raw material. We need it for heating, for our furniture, and for making paper. Trees are the habitat and refuge of animals, and they provide food. Without apples, plums, and nuts, Grandma's cake wouldn't taste half as good, right?
Forest habitat, for the well-being of the earth
Many forests are being cleared, meaning the trees are being cut down. There are various reasons for this, such as making room for residential and industrial buildings or using the tree wood. However, deforestation has very negative consequences for humans and animals, as forests are an important ecosystem that is being destroyed by human influence. Forests are home to many animals and plants, which lose their habitat when the forest is cleared. As a result, many native species are already threatened and could become extinct if their habitat is not preserved. Protecting and reforesting forests therefore also benefits species conservation.
In addition, reforestation projects help to neutralize many emissions, as the trees store harmful CO2, and the more trees, the better...
Forests also help purify the air. The leaves of deciduous forests, in particular, can filter pollutants such as particulate matter and exhaust fumes from the air. An intact forest ecosystem is therefore important not only for the animals and plants that live there, but also for our quality of life. A regular walk in the forest and the clean air there can even help us be physically and mentally healthier.
Protecting the climate means planting trees!
There's no denying that the consequences of climate change are becoming increasingly noticeable. Temperatures are rising, weather is becoming more extreme, and more and more animal species are threatened with extinction as their habitats disappear. The greenhouse gas effect caused by humans has reached dangerous proportions. Global CO2 emissions from industry, as well as cars and air traffic, are enormous. While we can contribute to reducing these emissions in some areas, even cycling, a vegan diet, and electric cars will not be enough to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to the point where they no longer pose a threat to the climate. Therefore, we need as many trees as possible, which can reduce some of the CO2 emissions.
Despite this, more and more forest areas are being cleared, so that around half of the world's tree population has now been destroyed. The remaining tree population must therefore be protected even more. In addition, some of the deforested forests can be reforested. There are already many organizations working on this, such as Plant my Tree , Oro Verde and Green Forest Fund . They look after the forests, try to preserve the ecosystems there and plant new trees. While trees alone cannot solve the climate crisis, they can help to mitigate the effects of climate change and push back the tipping point in the climate system. This can buy valuable time that we and future generations need to preserve the Earth as a habitat for long into the future. Every tree that is not cut down or replanted counts!
